PC IOL challenge: Active Listening and Patient Education Tip.

One effective strategy to improve communication and ensure that patient needs are met is to incorporate a lifestyle-centric consultation approach. This involves actively listening to understand the patient's daily activities, work requirements, and recreational interests.

Here’s how you can implement this:

Begin the consultation by asking open-ended questions about the patient's typical day, hobbies, and any challenges they face with their current vision. This discussion should aim to uncover how their visual needs vary across different settings like it reading, driving, using digital devices, or engaging in outdoor activities. Try to focus on emotions of patient as well, while he or she talking about different things - it will help to notice more important aspects.

Once you got the picture, I'd suggest to focus on accommodation loss issue, as it is the least known to patient topic.

By focusing on these lifestyle specifics, you can tailor your advice and treatment options more precisely, ensuring that the recommended solutions fully align with the patient's unique visual requirements and give you a 20/happy patient :)
