Patients undergoing cataract surgery or RLE, despite outcomes we may suggest clinically perfect, may be fully disappointed due to the visual issues they did not even realize before the surgery.
Thus, it is critically important to have a deep patient personality understanding before the surgery and to assess
1. VA "in the past" - as it might be the aim to "come back"
2. VA now, as it might be a reference point
3. VA expected to explain how it will compare with 1 and 2
+ consider QoV, as VA itself is nothing to deal with visual experience.
And last but not least. Patients are often not able to absorb all the information. The latest example - patient from US reached me saying "my doctor never offered me EDOF" but later send a message "oh, I was wrong, I have recovered that once look through your resource deeper, he mentioned Symfony.."
Patient communication, which I call by mistake (I'm sure!) as "patient education", is an exciting topic.
Despite the new IOL technologies coming and coming, patient communication issues are far away from being perfect.
